BRIEF FOR THE ANALYTICS ENGINE

It is technology that is shaping our society and accelerating changes around the world from time to time. For my analytics engine, I would like to show how sensors are one of the advanced devices that are widely used.
My chosen pachube feed is “temperature and light sensor”. I generated the idea by analyzing the meaning of temperature and light sensor and slowly developing my idea from there. A temperature sensor is a device to sense temperature and respond to temperature simulation. My analysis is as a  person goes closer to the temperature sensor, the body temperature which has body heat gives out heat and as it goes nearer, the temperature sensor will respond more. And therefore, I made the average velocity flowgraph which is used to see how close the person is to the area which sensor. The closer the player is to the place, the higher average velocity and also more heat. This is my analysis on temperature sensor applied in crysis.
Light sensor on the other hand, is a device used to detect light. It normally works as a n automatic controller that detects the amount of light in the room and adjust the lightings to a more comfortable level of brightness. But in this case, it turns on the light when it senses people around. So this also applies to the flowgraph- average velocity which tells if the player is around or nearby, then the light will light up.

CONCLUSION: THE RESPOND OF THE SENSOR IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE.

RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT- THE TUTORIAL

THE TUTORIAL- creating light

The topic of my tutorial is creating a light. The reason for selecting this is because I think it relates back to my first and second experiment. In my first experiment, I made flowgraph to ,make objects glow as for the second experiment, I picked a feed with the title temperature and light sensor but I focused more towards light and decided to go with light instead. I concluded that and therefore decided to make a tutorial showing how to create light in sandbox2.

Light, according to Wikipedia is an electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye. Other words, it is also a form of energy. Light has become such an important element on earth however people do not tend to see the importance of it and sometimes take it for granted until something happens, for example when the lights go off, when the power supply is down or when the electricity goes off, especially at night and only then we realize how important it is to us. The light source has become an essential and we almost can’t live without it unlike those days where light has not existed and people lit candles to get light source.

My tutorial is all about going back to basics and creating light. The tutorial is for all users, however there will a flowgraph so it is good if there is FlowgraphPluginSystem installed. The tutorial is conducted using camtasia studio. I did the tutorial with clear instructions written on the screen, the reason for this communication with the viewers is that I find this way more straight forward and easier for viewers to see it and understand because of past experiences, recording verbally and giving out instructions verbally can sometimes be frustrating for viewers because it might not be clear spoken and it would be difficult for the viewers and sometimes have to replay the tutorial over and over again and that is really inefficient. I also made the arrows from the mouse in a different colour to make it easier for viewers to follow it without having problem seeing it. Also, there is background music to make the whole tutorial less dull and boring.

Although it is just creating light in sandbox, but it can be interesting, I was surprised that there are so many styles of lighting and creating light is really useful in sandbox, especially when you are creating a scene, an environment, setting up a place for instance a restaurant, a school, buildings and more, everything enquires lightings and therefore learning and knowing how to create light is important so that you can do and play around with it.

In conclusion, something simple can be very useful since it is an essential and it is used commonly and in the real world people are using it every single moment so if we want to make our digital gaming world as real as the real world we should do it right and get the essential details done correctly starting from LIGHT !

flowgraph to make lights work video1

The reason for doing this is to show light in the building that symbolizes light sensor. When the player is close to the sensor, the light will go off and that shows how the player can be detected.

Sketchup models for analytics engine

The sketchup models. It is designed in this way so that when player enters in the middle, the sensors at the side can sense the player walking close towards it. Also, the design shows similarity to the image of the analytics engine. The people is in the space and the more people, more temperature, more lights.

average velocity speed video2

This shows the average speed of the player as it goes closer to the object in this case, sensors.

motion sensor flowgraph

This flowgraph shows how to make motion sensor for light. As the player goes into the area, the sensor will be able to detect and then there will be light.

flowgraph- moing entity video3

This shows when the player is moving. Also it will be for the sensors to detect as the player is walking close towards it.

cool infographics

As you look at this poster, you will see a tree. This makes me think of photosynthesis, meaning " putting together with light " and since my chosen pachube feed is about temperature and light I thought that this infographic relates to my idea and the feed.

The layout of this poster shows contrast. With black as background and bright colored wordings show resemblance to how light is needed in the dark. Other than that, with light, there is heat in the space and that makes changes to the temperature. This shows how the relationship between light and temperature is created.

I especially find this poster interesting. This image here with the title " Visualizing the Bible " The image is made up with arcs that brings to light the interconnected nature. The colors corresponding to the distance between the two testaments ( old and new ) and created a rainbow-like effect. Also gives the feeling of light resonance,

Temperature and Light sensor feed.

(taken roughly a month ago)

S: Interesting data streams with major difference between the reading in day time and towards evenings.Other than that, it can be related to today's world and even represented in the digital world/game world to make things more interesting. Sensors are placed widely these days to make things easier and more efficient.

W: Insufficient info regarding the feed and the titles are not listed clearly. Although sensors are great, it can sometimes be too sensitive which can cause technical problems.

O: Light could be played around more and its amazing to see how temperature is able to interact with light sensor and this is considered as advance technology which will be beneficial now and in the future and people will start to use the light sensors in office and classrooms for example.

T: Whether the light and temperature sensor is sensitive enough to detect movements around and just how quick it can pick up movements and will it be accurate.

In the video, it shows the environment that I've chosen, which is querry, and the scenes that I picked. I placed my 3d model in, which is a bomb shelter which I think is relevant and related to Paul Virilio's 'pure war' concept, where globalisation is what today's world is experiencing and everything is moving like the speed of light, in terms of technological advances and that inspired me to design a model which can show and represents the world we're living in and therefore I did a custom texture which can show off simplicity yet modern with colours black and white only. The other effects like rain and and the changing of time of day is another interesting thing, the changing of time i put is really quick, as I want to relate back to the world is changing rapidly and constantly and globalisation happening every now and then.

model- shelter

This is the 3d model built for the environment. The reason for building the model in a way is that my concept and understanding of pure war that is able to relate back to Paul Virilio's concept is that the model should be interesting, able to fit in to today's world and technology advances, very modern. Besides that, the first thing that came in mind when mentioned 'war' is shelter. So, i thought of building a shelter, a bomb shelter.

model :

I’ve noticed that Paul Virilio relate war to today’s technological society. He’s logic is that the world is evolving like the speed of light. Therefore, I’ve created a model with a very bright colour which represents light. Besides that, the model is also a form of shelter because shelter is important in the battle field. Other than that, the structure of the model is based on simplicity which can relate to today’s technology, advance yet simple to function.

week 1

One of the feeds i find interesting is Roque: Generator Shed. Having 6 islands in the Roque Island Archipelago it shows how power is distributed from the General Shed to the 6 islands. This feed is fairly understandable compared to other feeds. It clearly indicates the reading of each farm receiving power from the generator shed.

Feed 2:

Temperature and pressure .

I find this one more interesting. It shows how the temperature of a location is affected by the area of the place. The greater pressure the space has, the higher the temperature of the place. In this case, this place in Berlin is a small courtyard, and therefore, the pressure is high and causing the temperature to be high as well.
